Legal Talent & Development Manager – 12 month FTC starting in March - £70–£75k base + bens & bonus
Leading Legal and Investor Services provider to Corporate and Financial sectors, is currently seeking an experienced Talent Management and/or Learning & Development Manager from a legal or professional services background. Reporting to the Head of Talent & Development, this is a 12-month fixed term opportunity to provide temporary cover for the Legal Talent & Development Manager. The focus of the role is to ensure that the legal professionals have the support they need to flourish in their roles and achieve their career ambitions.
Roles & Responsibilities
To work closely with the Head of Talent & Development to deliver the framework for developing our global legal teams at all stages in their career, ensuring a steady stream of future senior lawyers and partners.
To manage the delivery of all legal development programmes, whether directly contributing to the delivery and facilitation of sessions, or leading the co-ordination of internal subject matter experts and/or external training providers.
To support the delivery of key projects and initiatives identified as priorities for the firm.
To contribute to our partner-track development process, offering guidance and support for any individuals selected to participate.
To ensure existing development programmes remain fit-for-purpose in line with changes in the industry and new routes to qualification for future solicitors.
To facilitate and/or observe internal programmes providing coaching to less experienced facilitators to ensure high standards are met.
To identify and select external providers who have fresh, relevant expertise and who are culturally-aligned with our style and approach.
To provide consulting and advisory support to partners and legal teams with regard to team and individual learning objectives, providing guidance on approaches, suppliers and costs.
To manage the global legal training budget, ensuring value for money on all spend.
To line manage the Senior Advisor within the Talent & Development team, providing operational guidance and regular support, whilst actively encouraging their professional growth and career development through coaching and structured feedback.
To work with peers in the Talent & Development team providing development support across other areas of the business to ensure a seamless, co-ordinated approach to firmwide and joint initiatives.
Experience & Qualifications
Experience operating in a legal or professional services background, and familiar with the needs of an international, fee-earning environment.
Familiar with legal career paths, routes to qualification, and appropriate external qualifications, in particular the SQE.
Proven advisory and consultancy skills with a business partner approach to identifying organisational training needs.
Skilled at design and facilitation of in-person and online development activities.
Comfortable using virtual delivery tools such as Microsoft Teams or Zoom.
Familiar with the use of learning management systems and digital platforms.
Client-focused with a sound understanding of the connection between the investment in professional development and the achievement of business priorities and strategy.
Pragmatic, balancing the desire for innovation, with the practicalities of a fast-paced fee-earning environment.
Digitally-minded with an eye for continuous improvement/automation opportunities and a focus on user experience.
Globally-aware and comfortable operating across international time zones with remote teams.
A clear and engaging communicator with effective negotiation and influencing skills and an ability to develop effective supplier partnerships.
Strong project management skills with an ability to manage multiple programmes and priorities simultaneously.
Ideally qualified in one or more psychometric tools.
